Charles Du Cane, 2007 - 2012
When I first played as Charles Du Cane in 2007, I promised myself that I would stop performing in the event that I started dedicating songs to my partner or offspring during live sets. It has been five years, and that day has come. The last Charles Du Cane show will be in a few weeks, as a part of Mona Foma’s club nights.
Highlights of the last few years include the release party for Poets at Siren’s, in 2009, and working with the indomitable Chris Townend on the production of Port and Rail.
I’d like to thank Jordan Marson, who has been a great and constant drummer, bandmate, co-worker, roadie, clarinetist and second set of ears throughout. Thanks also be to my girlfriend/wife Pip, for her patience with - and support of - my follies, and to each of the amazing musicians we’ve played with, both live and on record.
I will still be making music - I doubt I’ll ever stop - but I’ll be doing it sporadically, privately, and mostly for my daughter’s amusement.
- Fred Showell, January 2012.
Back catalogue will be made freely available from http://charlesducane.net/discography within January 2012. This will include an album of unreleased/rare recordings, and a compilation of the Videoshow covers completed over the last 12 months.
In another instance of my impeccable sense of timing, a video clip for “Something’s Goin’ On”, directed by Angus Ashton, will be released in the next couple of months.
